Mr Ram Moorthy
Mr Ram Moorthy is a highly skilled ENT surgeon with a subspecialty interest in head & neck/endocrine surgery, including thyroid and parathyroid gland surgery.
He was born in London and educated at Dulwich College. He attended the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals, London and qualified in 1999, where he was also awarded a B.Sc in Clinical Anatomy under the supervision of the eminent surgeon and anatomist Professor Harold Ellis.
His basic surgical training took place on the South Coast obtaining MRCS(Eng) in 2002. He undertook his higher surgical training in ENT, initially in the West Midlands before returning to London including spending a year training in tertiary level paediatrics at the Evelina Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. He was awarded FRCS(ORL-HNS) in 2007. He was recently elected to become a fellow of the American College of Surgeon (FACS).
He then successfully obtained a prestigious National Interface Fellowship in head & neck surgical oncology based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
Following completion of his fellowship he started as a Consultant ENT surgeon at Wexham Park Hospital in April 2011.
Mr Moorthy undertakes a full general ENT practice for adult and children at Wexham Park Hospital with a sub-speciality interest in head and neck surgery. Mr Moorthy is a high volume thyroid and parathyroid surgeon and until recently provided the service throughout Berkshire, as he was also an Honorary Consultant Surgeon at Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading.
He has led in developing a number of innovative advances in surgery. He undertook the first “scarless” thyroid and parathyroid procedures in the UK – Transoral Endoscopic Thyroid/Parathyroid Endoscopic Vestibular Approach. He now leads a course teaching other surgeons, as well as lecturing in the UKL and internationally.
For patients undergoing parotid gland surgery Mr Moorthy can utilise an approach hiding the scar behind the ear, rather than the larger neck scar commonly used.
Mr Moorthy was the first surgeon in the local area offering coblator surgery for adenoid and tonsil surgery both on the NHS and privately.
He remains actively involved in research and has had a number of published papers in peer reviewed journals and also invited author for book chapters in various prestigious ENT textbooks.

Mr Moorthy holds a number of representative roles outside his clinic practice and these include:
- Council member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
- Executive Committee member of the British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons (BAETS).
- Clinical Trustee for ENTUK and is also a member of ENTUK Council.
Mr Moorthy has a long-standing interest in postgraduate and undergraduate medical education and training. He continues to be invited faculty for courses and conferences in the UK and abroad. He has held a variety of roles including:
