In addition to contraception counselling, Doctor Now run regular Family Planning Clinics for the insertion and removal of contraceptive devices such as coils and implants. Below is a summary of the type of family planning procedures we offer:
- Insertion intrauterine device (Mirena/Jaydess/T-safe/Nova-T) A vaginal speculum is used to visualise the cervix (neck of the womb) and a small, thin, T-shaped device is inserted into the womb.
- Removal intrauterine device A vaginal speculum is used to visualise the cervix (neck of the womb) and the threads of an intrauterine device are used to pull the device out of the womb.
- Insertion subdermal implant After using some local anaesthetic a small plastic rod is inserted under the skin in the upper arm.
- Removal subdermal implant After using some local anaesthetic, a small incision in the skin is made with a scalpel and the implant removed with forceps.
- Depo-provera injection A hormone progesterone is injected into the muscle of the buttock.
