Integral to DoctorNow’s service is laboratory and on-site tests; essential tools for accurate diagnosis, monitoring of health conditions and timely intervention.

Laboratory tests constitute a cornerstone of modern medicine, providing valuable insights into patients’ health status and aiding in the formulation of effective treatment plans. At Doctor Now, our team utilise a variety of laboratory and onsite tests, including:

Blood Tests: Comprehensive blood panels assess various parameters such as full blood count, thyroid function, lipid profile, cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels, kidney function, liver function, and markers of inflammation.

Urine Tests: Urinalysis helps detect abnormalities such as urinary tract infections, kidney disorders, and metabolic conditions by analysing urine composition and properties.

Microbiology swabs: Throat, nasal and skin swabs. Whether it’s for identifying bacterial infections, viral pathogens, or other microbial agents, swabs provide a convenient and efficient means of sample collection.

Cervical screening: Also known as a Pap smear or Pap test, is a routine screening procedure designed to detect early signs of cervical cancer. It involves collecting cells from the cervix, the lower part of the uterus, and examining them under a microscope to identify any abnormalities or pre-cancerous changes.

Colorectal cancer screening: Aimed at detecting colorectal cancer at early stages when it is most treatable. Colorectal cancer, which includes cancers of the colon and rectum, is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women worldwide.

Culture and Sensitivity Tests: These tests identify the presence of bacterial or fungal infections and determine the most appropriate antibiotics or antifungal agents for treatment.

On-site Tests: Also known as point-of-care tests, offer rapid results and immediate insights into patients’ health conditions, enabling prompt decision-making and intervention. Within a general practice setting, common on-site tests include rapid tests for conditions such as influenza, strep throat, diabetes and urinary tract infections which provide quick results, allowing our clinical team to initiate treatment promptly.

Vital Sign Measurements: On-site assessments of vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature, aid in the evaluation of patients’ overall health status and response to treatment.

Diagnostic Devices: Portable devices such as glucometers for blood glucose monitoring, pulse oximeters for oxygen saturation measurement, and electrocardiography (ECG) machines for cardiac assessment enhance diagnostic capabilities at the point of care.

It is essential for our clinicians to ensure that all medical tests selected are appropriate for you.

There are a number of reasons why a test may be required, therefore, in most cases you will need to book a consultation with one of our GPs before any blood tests are carried out.

If another healthcare professional has advised you to take a test, written details will need to be provided in advance of booking an appointment.

We offer a secure and fast turnaround of results. We will confirm during your consultation how your results will be communicated and the timeframe for when they are likely to be received.

The cost of a test varies depending on the type of test you need. If you know which test(s) you need in advance of your appointment, we can advise you of the cost over the phone or via email. Alternatively if the clinician recommends a test during your consultation, they will be able to give you an indication of the cost before proceeding.

Fees for blood tests are not covered by membership and are additional to any consultation fees. All fees are payable on the day.

If you have any further questions or would like to book a test, please call us on 01494 410888 and one of our team will be delighted to assist.
